When you don’t feel like taking the stairs

The bellowing elk

(Turkish street dogs have it all worked out)

5 Scientists have proven that there are two things in the air that have been known to cause women to get pregnant: their legs.

5 A man boards a plane with six kids. After they get settled in their seats, a woman sitting across the aisle leans over to him and asks, “Are all of those kids yours?” He replies, “No. I work for a condom company. These are customer complaints.”

5 .A guy and his wife are sitting and watching a boxing match on television. The husband sighs and complains, “This is disappointing. It only lasted for 30 seconds!” “Good,” replied his wife. “Now you know how I always feel.”

  1. Mother: “Sweetie, make a Christmas wish.”

Girl: “I wish that Santa will send some clothes to those naked girls in papa’s computer.”

  1. On hearing that her elderly grandfather has just passed away, Katie goes straight to her grandparents’ house to visit her 95-year-old grandmother and comfort her. When she asks how her grandfather has died, her grandmother replies, “He had a heart attack while we were making love on Sunday morning.” Horrified, Katie tells her grandmother that two people nearly 100 years old having sex will surely be asking for trouble. “Oh no, my dear. Many years ago, realizing our advanced age, we figured out the best time to do it was when the church bells would start to ring. It was just the right rhythm. It was nice, slow, and even. Nothing too strenuous, simply in on the ding and out on the dong.” She pauses, wipes away a tear and then continues, “And if that damned ice cream truck hadn’t come along, he’d still be alive today!”

6 Three people get arrested and are taken into holding for questioning. The officer talks to the first girl, asking, “What’s your name?” She says, “Yo.” The officer asks, “What are you in for?” She responds with, “Blowing bubbles.” The officer takes her picture and lets her go. He asks the second girl, “What’s your name?” She responds with, “Yo Yo.” The officer asks, “What are you in for?” She responds with, “Blowing bubbles.” The officer takes her picture and lets her go. He talks to the guy and says, “Let me guess, your name is Yo Yo Yo.” The guy replies with, “No, it’s Bubbles.”

6 A man in a hotel lobby turns to go to the front desk, but he accidentally runs into a woman beside him and his elbow bumps into her breast. They are both quite startled. The man turns to her and says, “Ma’am, if your heart is soft as your breast, I know you’ll forgive me.” She replies, “If your penis is as hard as your elbow, I’m in room 436.”

  1. There was an elderly man who wanted to make his younger wife pregnant. He went to the doctor to get a sperm count. The doctor told him to take a specimen cup home, fill it, and bring it back. The elderly man came back the next day; the specimen cup was empty and the lid was on it. The doctor asked, “What was the problem?” The elderly man said, “Well, I tried with my right hand… nothing. I tried with my left hand… nothing. So my wife tried with her right hand… nothing. Her left hand… nothing. Her mouth… nothing. Then my wife’s friend tried. Right hand, left hand, mouth… still nothing. The doctor replied, “Wait a minute, did you say your wife’s friend too?!” The elderly man answered, “Yeah, and we still couldn’t get the lid off of the specimen cup.”

The Lazarus heist: How North Korea almost pulled off a billion-dollar hack

“In 2016 North Korean hackers planned a $1bn raid on Bangladesh’s national bank and came within an inch of success – it was only by a fluke that all but $81m of the transfers were halted, report Geoff White and Jean H Lee. But how did one of the world’s poorest and most isolated countries train a team of elite cyber-criminals?

It all started with a malfunctioning printer. It’s just part of modern life, and so when it happened to staff at Bangladesh Bank they thought the same thing most of us do: another day, another tech headache. It didn’t seem like a big deal.

But this wasn’t just any printer, and it wasn’t just any bank.”

The three princes of Serendip: Notes on a mysterious phenomenon

David R. Colman

‘“The seeds of great discoveries are constantly floating around us, but they only take root in minds well prepared to receive them.”

Joseph Henry, physicist and first director of The Smithsonian Institution

The word “serendipity” was entered into the lexicon by Horace Walpole in 1754. He had become intrigued with a Persian fairytale in which three princes of Serendip, (now Sri Lanka) traveled the world, “making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of…” Walpole proposed the new word, but then went on to give rather mundane examples of its meaning. It is only recently that serendipity has acquired its rather grand and mysterious significance.

The Oxford English Dictionary defines serendipity as “the faculty of making happy and unexpected discoveries by accident.” Serendipity plays an important part in research of all kinds, but it operates only in a special environment; as Pasteur famously stated, “Chance favors the prepared mind.” In research, what serendipity really means in practical terms is that scientists discover things in the course of their investigations that they were not looking for. And these new findings are often not the products of cold logic.” ‘

“The wrong person was in the dock being sentenced last week in the ACT Magistrates Court in relation to Australia’s 2004 bugging of the Timor-Leste cabinet room.

It is Alexander Downer who should have faced court, along with John Howard and David Irvine, the then-head of the Australian Secret Intelligence Service (ASIS). Ashton Calvert, then-head of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, has since passed away, but senior officials of that department at that time, as well as Downer’s staff, some of whom have gone on to subsequent parliament careers, should also have faced investigation.

For what? Ordering and overseeing a potentially illegal act by ASIS, one intended to benefit fossil fuel giant and political donor Woodside. Both Downer and Calvert went on to take positions with Woodside.”

What is Australia’s role in Afghanistan as women are again put at risk?

“When Habiba Sarabi took her seat in the fancy five-star resort in Moscow, to eyeball the peace delegates, there were 25 others at the head table. All men. For the women and girls of Afghanistan, this sends an ominous message of things to come.

Outspoken women’s rights agitators, politicians like Sarabi, and the countless women leaders and feminist activists who have helped drag Afghanistan into the 21st century are facing the fight of their lives. Like the interpreters who worked for Australia, some of those women also have targets on their back. Taliban targets.

What happens next is something we cannot walk away from. Australia has already invested way too much.”

Israeli Researchers Develop Electronic Nose to Detect Diseases, Poisons

The Jerusalem Post June 19, 2021

An artificial nose developed by researchers at Israel’s Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) can distinguish between different types of bacteria, viruses, and poisonous gases based on their “smell print.” This smell print is produced by the absorption of gases using carbon nanoparticles and the electrical reaction caused by the particles as a result of the absorption. The researchers said they “were able to ‘train’ the electronic nose using machine learning techniques to detect different gas molecules, individually or in a mixture, with high accuracy.” BGU’s Raz Yelink said the low-cost technology could be used to warn cities about the presence of dangerous gases and air pollution, detect bacterial infections within an hour via a “throat swab” test, and warn of the presence of bacteria in food products.
